Sniper Studios will build a game that captures the thrill and excitement of one of the world’s most deadly jobs and present it to an audience who would never dare to set foot on the deck of one of these ships. Wreckage is a light strategy game that will take the user through the trials and tribulations of commanding a boat in the most unforgiving weather conditions for the sake of taking in as much crab as possible.
The Wreckage game was originally designed to be an action game on the consoles.
The idea was to play the game up high but also come down to deck high and manage activity on the boat. You can see some more samples of gameplay shots at the bottom of this page.
We also started work on a version of the game that would be less realistic and fit in with the Wii gamers.
Ultimately, funding will determine how much we can get in the game for launch.
Click on your boat to load up and purchase supplies. Next, select your crew with each one having a different skill set and price. Before you take off, check on conditions and look for hints for the hot locations.
Trace out a course to travel. Prepare the cages. Double click to drop a cage at any point. Note other boats in the area approaching your dropped pots. Double tap your boat to zoom in and stop dropping pots while preparing the harpoon. Protesters. They have sabataged one your crab pots but your warning shot scores a hit and scares them off.
Time to pick up the rest of the pots when a pirate boat approaches rapidly and rams your boat knocking a greenhorn into the ocean. Do you deal with the pirates? Rescue your crewmate? Decide quick because a storm is coming and the prices of crabs in town is dropping.
While many of us still believe this would make a great downloadable game on the consoles, it became apparent to us the this game would be even more fun on portable devices (yes this game was designed before Ipads and Don't have a team?
Time is money! Unlike the real life water warriors, our virtual captains are fighting time for a different reason. In Wreckage, our price of crab reduces or increases based off of the amount of crab being brought in to the various processing plants and ports. This adds to the strategic elements of the game. The crab may be plentiful farther north but is it worth it to haul in a larger load at a reduced price?
The hottest crab grounds are going to bring the most conflict as competing boats fight for prime locations. Pirates and Peaceniks will try and steal your haul but you can defend yourself by using your harpoon, dropping mines and placing decoy buoys. When all else fails you can simply ram other boats for revenge.
Moment to Moment fun on the open seas! With several boats competing for the same deep sea gold, there are bound to be plenty of conflicts and problems aside from the unforgiving conditions. After dropping your crab pots, you need to defend them while they soak. The longer the soak the bigger the haul. Crab pot stealing, boat jacking, and piracy can happen when out at sea and nobody is watching.
Have a strategy! The crew you assemble pays dividends with a good strategy. At times, the sea can feel like bumper boats. A good captain always keeps an eye on the competition and relies on information from friends within their fleet. The winning captain is the one who gets the most cash for his crab hauls.
